  • Online/hybrid - Monday, January 20 through Thursday, January 23, 2025

  • In person meeting - Sunday, January 19 through Friday, January 24, 2023

The last day to apply for scholarships is September 15, 2024

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Create a two-page .pdf document with the following content. When done, upload the
document by clicking the "Browse" button below. Be sure to submit your application by hitting the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

  • Header - Put your name and “Online” or “In-person” in the header•

  • Page 1 - In 250 words or less, explain why you seek a scholarship to attend BLAST XVIII.

  • Page 2 - Provide a summary of up to one-page of your current research.

You should include all of the following items in your research summary:

  • Title

  • Background: Describe the problem under investigation, the question being answered, and/or the hypothesis being tested. Include enough information to orient a person who is not in your particular field.

  • Methods: Briefly indicate the experimental methods used.

  • Results: Summarize the essential results.

  • Conclusion: Provide an interpretation of your findings that is supported by your results. Detailed discussion of results is not necessary. A few concluding sentences should suffice to summarize the main findings.

  • Figure: A figure that explains background information or summarizes conclusions will be more useful than a figure with experimental data.

If you have questions about the application process, please contact Bob Bourret (bourret@med.unc.edu).

ELIGIBILITY
Due to limited funds, scholarships are only available to graduate students or postdoctoral scientists.  No more than one trainee per lab will be awarded a scholarship.  Recipients of scholarships to attend previous BLAST meetings are not eligible for a new scholarship.

Recipients of in person scholarships are expected to present a talk or a poster, and to stay for the duration of the meeting.  Recipients of online scholarships are expected to view live or recorded talks.

DECISIONS

All applicants will be notified as soon as possible if they have been awarded or
denied a scholarship, hopefully by mid-October. No decisions will be made until after
applications close.
